Lost Civilization is an Extinction map and the first map in Modern Warfare: Extinction. It is set at the Nightfall research facility located on the Lyakhovsky Islands in north-eastern Russia. There are four areas; the Outer Compound, Inner Compound, Main Facility Interior and the Loading Dock Exterior; each containing Challenges, Cases that have items, and Cryptid hives.
The map's layout is extremely similar to, and is considered a remake of Nightfall.

Overview
Lost Civilization is the first of multiple linear maps in Modern Warfare: Extinction. In each of the four main areas, players will find Hives that they need to destroy with a Specialized Drill in order to advance to the next area. This Drill needs to be protected as Cryptids will attack it, dealing damage. As players progress through the map, they'll encounter more and more stronger types of Cryptids. The first area consists of Scouts and Scorpions; the second area will introduce Hunters and Seekers; the third area will introduce Rhinos, Phantoms and Lepers; the fourth area will feature the Cryptid Alpha as a boss and all previous types of Cryptids accordingly as they assist the Alpha to kill JOKER 6. In each of these four areas, players can also locate Weapon Crates, which will contain Weapon Variants, and Cases that contain various Lethal and Tactical equipment such as flares, throwing knives and Trophy Systems, which is the only way of obtaining them. Once the Drill is placed, a Challenge will be activated which players can complete to earn an extra Skill Point.
After killing the Cryptid Alpha in the fourth area, players will be directed to run back all the way to the first area in order to be extracted by Black Flag 4-2; during which Black Flag will be unavailable if a player has Black Flag 4-2 as their selected Air Support Ability.
Story
After their briefing by David Archer, JOKER 6 deploys and approaches the facility's outer compound, they report no movement. They noticed large hive-like fauna, and are told to find a specialized drill meant to deal with the hives. They are then attacked by unknown creatures that ravaged the base and its personnel; Archer tells them that he calls the creatures Cryptids. The team is able to hold their own and fend off the Cryptids. After clearing a hive that blocked off a security booth, the team makes contact with a Samantha Cross, who's still alive in the armoury. They notify Archer who tells them she's now a secondary objective, but their main objective still stands. Clearing all hives in the area, they move forward towards the main facility but as they approach the gate, they are met with a large Cryptid that stops their advance. After narrowly defeating it, it retreats and so JOKER 6 stays on their guard; they continue forward to the facility.
Approaching the main facility and surrounding buildings, JOKER 6 finds more of the hives and proceed to clear them with the drill while also fending off the Cryptids. After clearing a hive that led to what appeared to be an infirmary, they find an audio log that explains an illness some personnel caught while working here. Dismissed by Archer as a common sickness, they proceed with their objective. Spending time clearing the rest of the hives, they clear the last one that blocked the main facility's entrance and are then challenged by the large Cryptid once again, though they prevail and it retreats.
Now within the main facility now, they notice numerous rooms that housed information regarding Nightfall and the 501st Corporation's mission to uncover the lost civilization they were searching for. They notice more hives and are ordered to clear the hive blocking the door to the facility's server room where all files are kept, as JOKER 6-1 carried a DSM to transfer all information and data. Clearing the hive to server, the team connects the DSM and begins the transfer of the information and data while also fending off the Cryptids. After reaching the armoury, the team contacts Black Flag 4-2 to extract Samantha Cross out of the area. Successfully extracting Cross, the team proceeds to collect the DSM within the server room before leaving.
Having the DSM on hand and killing the Cryptids that attacked, the team proceeds to use the specialized drill to clear out the remaining hives in the main facility. After finishing the last hive in the loading dock, the large Cryptid smashes through the doors and challenges the team to a fight, leading them outside. Encouraged by Archer and Knight, the team takes their time to kill the Cryptid by targeting its weak points while also fending off Cryptids. Once finally killing the large Cryptid, a large swarm of Cryptids suddenly appear. Knight tells them to rush back to the outer compound where Black Flag 4-2 was waiting to extract them. Successfully reaching the helicopter, JOKER 6 is congratulated by Archer and Knight for their efforts; the former gives high praise for both the DSM and Dr. Cross.
Over a day later, Russian port town Dikson is attacked by unknown creatures which are later identified as the Cryptids. In a quick response, Henry Knight tasks JOKER 2 to deal with the threat alongside Russian National Guard forces.

Areas
Outer Compound
The Outer Compound is where players will begin the mission. As the road leads to the Nightfall facility, they'll find three buildings; a storage hutt, outer security building that connects to a gate control building. In addition, there are a total of 6 Weapon Crates and 7 Cases to be found in this area.
Players will need to destroy 5 Hives in this area. The first Hive is located behind the storage hutt, the second Hive is located at the Gate Control building's front door, the third Hive is located near a security booth just north of the Gate Control building, the fourth Hive is located on top of the Outer Security building blocking its entrance, and the fifth Hive is located on the right end of a large Gas Container.
Within the 6 Weapon Crates, players will find these Weapon Variants:
- Wendigo for $1500.
- Omega for $1000.
- Dusk for $2000.
- Dokkaebi for $1500.
- Sunspot for $2000.
- White Out for $500.
Inner Compound
The Inner Compound is the second area players access after defeating the Cryptid Alpha. There'll be two paths; the left leads to a loading dock and the right leads to the Main Facility itself. In addition, there are 6 Weapon Crates and 8 Cases to be found in this area.
Players will find 6 Hives in this area. The first Hive is located directly to the right beside a flight of stairs, the second Hive is located blocking the entrance to the Outer Infirmary, the third Hive is located just above the Outer Infirmary, the fourth Hive is located beside the parked T-34-85 near the Main Facility entrance, the fifth Hive is located at the center of the loading dock exterior, and the sixth Hive is located directly to the right after entering the Inner Compound.
Within 6 Weapon Crates, players will find these Weapon Variants:
- Beefeater for $1500.
- Omega for $1000.
- Dusk for $2000.
- Black Betty for $1500.
- Black Diamond for $2000.
- White Out for $500.
Main Facility Interior
The Main Facility Interior is the third area players access after defeating the Cryptid Alpha a second time. The entrance is a single path only. Inside, there are numerous hallways and an open area space on the back-end with a large door leading to the Loading Dock. In addition, there are 7 Weapon Crates and 9 Cases found in this area.
Players will find 7 Hives in this area. The first Hive is located blocking the entrance to the Server Room, the second Hive is found blocking the Armoury's entrance, the third Hive is located within the Loading Dock interior, the fourth Hive is found on a catwalk overlooking the Loading Dock's entrance, the fifth Hive is located within a locker room, the sixth Hive is found near the Main Facility's entrance, and the seventh Hive is found near the center.
Furthermore, once clearing the Hive blocking the Server Room, players are given orders to place a DSM on the desk within the room in order to copy all Nightfall data to it. Once its placed, players can continue clearing Hives until its finished copying. In addition, clearing the Armoury entrance will allow players to rescue Samantha Cross and extract her from the base with the help of Black Flag 4-2, if they made contact with her in the Outer Compound area. The Hive located in the Loading Dock cannot be cleared until all other Hives are cleared and the DSM is finished copying.
Within the 7 Weapon Crates, players will find these Weapon Variants:
- Black Bear for $1500.
- Thunderclap for $1500.
- Airshot for $1000.
- Palliser for $2000.
- Muck and Mire for $1500.
- Talon's MK14 for $1500.
- The Frontier for $2000.
Loading Dock Exterior
Once destroying the Hive in the Loading Dock, the Cryptid Alpha will smash through the loading dock exterior doors. It'll roar at the players and retreat back outside. This is where players will be able to finally kill the Alpha. There is no Weapon Crates or Cases found in this area, as it is considered a boss fight.
The Cryptid Alpha will have several weak points, the most vulnerable being its stomach where if players shoot it for a good amount of time, the Alpha will be stunned and immobilized, allowing players to deal damage to it. Much like its previous encounters, the Alpha will launch Cryptid Eggs that spawn Hunters, and will charge towards players closest to it, Downing them if successful. Every time 2000 damage is dealt, it will enter a Frenzy state where it deals more damage to players and will summon Rhinos for assistance.
Once its been defeated, it'll fall to the ground. About three seconds after, players will hear several roars coming from behind a building where three more Cryptid Alphas will emerge from. Players will then need to run back to the Outer Compound area where Black Flag 4-2 will be waiting as extraction.

Audio Logs
There are several Audio Logs located in different parts of the map; these feature Nightfall personnel.
- Audio Log 1 is located within the security post north of the Outer Compound gate building.
- Audio Log 2 is located within the Infirmary in the Inner Compound.
- Audio Log 3 is located within the Armoury inside the Main Facility.
- Audio Log 4 is located on the desk within the Server Room.

Trivia
- While spotting the T-34-85s, players will notice that the emblem found on them is not the Soviet hammer and sickle. It is actually the emblem used by Pravda Girls High School, a Soviet-themed Japanese high school within the Girls und Panzer universe.
