The Power Stone was one of the six Infinity Stones.
Background
Creation
Alongside the other five Infinity Stones, the Power Stone was formed during the Big Bang of the Nexus, possessing the power to manipulate the universal aspect of galactic power. After its creation, the Power Stone was displaced into one of the ever-blooming universes within the Nexus as a result of the Big Bang.[1]
Gauntlet of Ataraxia
Ataraxia's Mission
Sometime during the early stages of Earth-111517's history, the Power Stone was discovered by Ataraxia during his quest to forge a weapon that would allow him to rule all of existence. Upon using the Power Stone as a power source for the prototype Gauntlet of Ataraxia, Ataraxia realized the potential power he would have if he was able to unite all six Infinity Stones into a single weapon. Sealing the Power Stone away within a hidden compartment in the gauntlet to continue using it as its main power source, Ataraxia began his search for the other stones.[1]
Eventually, Ataraxia was defeated by an unknown group of heroes, who banished the ancient evil to the farthest reaches of the universe using his own gauntlet, where he remained in a perpetual state of stasis. Believing them to be the Infinity Stones, the heroes removed the three Power Cores on the exterior of the Gauntlet of Ataraxia and hid them away, though the Power Stone remained hidden within its secret compartment in the main gauntlet piece, which ended up being buried within the Mines of Despair on Fidea VI.[2]
Amsel Caligari's Plot
Many years later, the main gauntlet piece was discovered by the Coil Arms Division's acting commander Amsel Caligari, who had heard legends of the mystical gauntlet and the power it possessed. Caligari experimented with the gauntlet, discovering that he could somehow control zombies infected with Hybrillium, though he remained oblivious to the fact that this was due to the hidden Power Stone being able to manipulate the raw energy possessed by Hybrillium. Theorizing that the missing Power Cores could allow the gauntlet to unlock the power of resurrection once reinstalled, Caligari made it his mission to obtain the missing cores by blackmailing the four heroes of Earth-111517 into finding them for him in exchange for sparing President John Barstow.
Once the heroes acquired the three Power Cores and delivered them to Caligari on New Pomerania, he managed to finally restore the Gauntlet of Ataraxia to its full might, which he experimented with by resurrecting the heroes' dead friend Brian Thompson, converting him into a mindless fighting machine. Caligari then fled with the completed gauntlet to Planet XIV, where he resurrected the leader of the Coil Arms Division Tom McPhillian. However, McPhillian betrayed Caligari and stole the gauntlet from him, believing that Caligari would use it as a bargaining chip against McPhillian in the future. After murdering his former second-in-command, McPhillian fought the four heroes with the gauntlet.
Unfortunately for McPhillian, the gauntlet ended up getting struck by a bolt of lightning from Planet XIV's never-ending lightning storm overhead, which overloaded the gauntlet and destroyed it, taking the three Power Cores and the hidden Power Stone with it.[2] With the complete destruction of the gauntlet however, Ataraxia was able to break free of his stasis and return back to the Milky Way Galaxy. Upon learning of the gauntlet's destruction, Ataraxia believed he could no longer pursue the rest of the Infinity Stones for the time being and instead opted to construct a special war machine to replace his destroyed gauntlet.[3]
Restoration
Around this time in Earth-31218, Xarcoh, using his spatial powers derived from the Space Stone, became aware of the existence of the Gauntlet of Ataraxia in Earth-111517. Using the powers of Dark Creation contained within the Lamp of Destiny, Xarcoh restored the completed Gauntlet of Ataraxia for his own use, unknowingly restoring the Power Stone in the process. Following the defeat of Tribus at the Temple of Terminus, the discarded gauntlet was claimed by Novus, who used its power to revive themselves after falling out of the collapsing flying temple. Novus then used the gauntlet to revive their friend Samuel Higgins.[4]
Studied by Novus
Over the course of the following week, Novus studied the Gauntlet of Ataraxia and the three Power Cores inserted into it. One day, the team met Roach, who had traveled to Earth-31218 from his home universe by utilizing a temporal vortex created by the destruction of the Time Blade. Roach informed the team that Ataraxia was after the Infinity Stones after learning the Power Stone was active somewhere, revealing that he possessed the Space Stone within his soul. Novus then informed Roach about their history with Xarcoh and his use of the Gauntlet of Ataraxia, and after closely studying the inner workings of the gauntlet, Roach discovered the hidden compartment containing the Power Stone.[1]
