Beware the Bad Patch.
- “Beware, beware the Bad Patch, for when Halloween comes, terror awakens.”
- ―Folklore warning
The Bad Patch refers to an old folklore that describes a group of mythical sentient antagonistic Jack-O'-Lanterns that terrorizes the population during Halloween.
According to the folklore surrounding the Bad Patch, they originated from actual, non-sentient pumpkins until a Witch had picked out four pumpkins from a patch. She craved them into jack-o'-lanterns as decorations for Halloween. However, she suffered from constant abuse from children and teenagers, who continuously mocked her and vandalized her home. It has been said that she eventually decided enough was enough, and infused the jack-o'-lanterns with sentience and gave them negative emotions, resulting in their antagonistic nature.
After granting them their sentience, she ordered the jack-o'-lanterns to make everyone pay for what they had done to her, however because of their extreme negativity and nature, all four of them had killed her first. They would then terrorize the local population afterwards, killing hundreds and causing their tale to spread across the world. They became so infamous that their story eventually was considered folklore in the modern world.
The Bad Patch will make their first appearance in "Karneval der Albträume" as enemies alongside the four horror icons they were named after.
Jack-O'-Lanterns
The Jack-O'-Lanterns were unnamed for much of their history. Though, in the modern world, they were named after several horror icons in fiction.
Chucky was named after Chucky from the Child's Play film series. Freddy was named after Freddy Krueger from the A Nightmare on Elm Street film series. Jason was named after Jason Voorhees from the Friday the 13th film series. Michael was named after Michael Myers from the Halloween film series.
