The Soul Hacker is a Wonder Weapon featured in the Soul of the Machine storyline created by Greedyselfish. It made it's debut on Cyborg Reliance and appearing in every map in the storyline. It also appears in other, non-storyline maps, such as Halloween Homecoming.
Overview
The Soul Hacker features two different firing modes. The primary being the "Hack Mode" and the secondary being "Blast Mode". When in Hack Mode, the player can go up to a cyborg and it will suck the energy (or "Soul") out of it. When five cyborgs have been drained, it will switch to the "Blast Mode". The energy stored in the ammo battery will be used to power five electric blasts that can take out rows of at least 5-6 cyborgs. However, similar to the Thundergun, you cannot reload mid-clip or aim down sights.
Overall, it is one of the most powerful and useful weapons in the storyline, but results may vary depending on the user.
Design
The weapon's model looks similar to the Tempest but is longer and thinner. It has a grayish black color scheme and reloads from the left side of the gun. Despite not being able to ADS, there are iron sights on the gun, but is crooked beyond belief. This indicates that the gun was most likely in it's early prototype stage and was left unfinished. Also, when in blast mode, it will shoot light blue beams, which is the matching color of the cyborg's eyes.
Pack-A-Punch
When Pack-A-Punched, the Soul Hacker becomes the Edge Crusher. Magazine size and max ammunition is doubled and both damage and range is increased. It will also shoot blood red beams instead of light blue.
Trivia
- The gun was loosely inspired by the Jet Gun and the V-R11 in terms of functionality and abilities.
- It's design was originally similar to the CEL-3 Cauterizer, but was changed to look more like the Tempest.
- Both it's name and Pack-A-Punch variant is named after the songs "Soul Hacker" and "Edgecrusher". Both by Industrial Heavy Metal band Fear Factory.
- On Cyborg Reliance, if the player upgrades and kills 50 cyborgs using it, he/she will earn the "Hack/Blast" achievement worth 25
