Creation by RoachTheIntelCollector canon to the Roach Chronicles

The Soul is a fundamental part of one's being within the Roach Chronicles. Nearly every being has one, and functions as the true "mind" of an individual.

Overview

While within a being, a soul doesn't have a physical appearance until it is outside of one's physical form, yet it maintains a sort of spiritual presence within a being. Physically, a soul manifests as a colored, spiritual orb, and is slightly larger than a normal human being's eye, though strong souls can present themselves as an apparition of the physical forms they originate from. Without a soul, a being's physical form will perish; however removing one's soul without death is a rare but achievable feat. It is possible for one's physical form to remain even without a soul, but the body must first acquire a medium to use in place of the soul. Likewise, a soul can remain without a physical body, but will disappear if one is not acquired within a set amount of time.

The Soulless are prime examples of beings capable of surviving without a soul, as they were given the power of darkness in its place. Despite this, a Soulless can create their own soul separate from their original human counterpart's provided they spend enough time in the reality they originated from, with Xarcoh and Ignotus being the only natural cases of this ever happening. Additionally, Xarcoh was able to use his spatial powers to ensure his soul survived long enough to find residence within the Soul Jar and eventually be given a new physical form by the Yin Blade.

As demonstrated by Erebus and Paige Bishop, it is possible for two souls to be fused into a single one. With Erebus, both Roach and Xarcoh's deceased souls were resurrected together as one without problem, though they separated after Erebus was destroyed. Since both Ignotus and Abigail Payne's souls were alive when they fused together and thus their consciousnesses were still intact, the process of their union forcefully stripped Paige's soul of both of their influences, though Ignotus' strong will managed to hold on slightly longer than Abigail's. Through a combination of Prima Materia and a reflection, a soul can be recreated if it is completely destroyed through the use of the strong lingering thoughts of the deceased.

Due to her artificial nature, Heather Mason's soul acted as a form of anchor to maintain her physical form, which harbored her consciousness instead. As a result of Metatron's manipulations, Heather's physical form began to fall apart as he slowly drew energy from her soul. Upon destroying her own soul and thus her anchor to prevent Metatron's return, Heather's dissolving form allowed her to combine with Lena Oxton's body, allowing her to share her soul to anchor the remnants of her original form. This stable union of Heather and Lena's consciousnesses and physical forms lead to the birth of Helena Maxton, a fusion of the two.
