The Reality Stone was one of the six Infinity Stones.
Background
Creation
Alongside the other five Infinity Stones, the Reality Stone was formed during the Big Bang of the Nexus, possessing the power to manipulate the universal aspect of reality. After its creation, the Reality Stone was displaced into one of the ever-blooming universes within the Nexus as a result of the Big Bang.[1]
Aztec Empire
Between 1300 and 1521 AD, the Reality Stone was discovered by the Aztecs within Earth-61017. Using the Reality Stone, the Aztecs used its power to create and maintain their empire. However, the Aztecs, having discovered that they were too weak to survive using the stone, began sacrificing people to use the stone to continue expanding their empire.
After a poor Aztec man witnessed the sacrifice of his entire family and the stone's influence on the rest of the empire, the man stole the stone from the Aztec Empire and fled to what would one day be Northern Yucatán. There, the man used the stone to transform himself into a lost temple that would house the Reality Stone, transforming the stone into a liquid so that only a being of true power could retrieve the stone and return it to its original state.[1]
Ataraxia's Campaign
Initial Plan
After obtaining the Power Stone, Ataraxia came to learn of the other five Infinity Stones and sought to amass their collective power for universal domination, though he was ultimately unable to find their exact locations before being defeated and banished to the depths of space. Upon learning that the Power Stone had been inadvertently destroyed, Ataraxia abandoned his search for the other stones and instead focused his efforts on constructing the Iron Doom superweapon.[2]
Retrieved by the Council
Upon learning the whereabouts of the other Infinity Stones and that the Power Stone was once again active after it was previously destroyed, Ataraxia dispatched the members of his newly-formed council to procure the available stones located on Earth-61017. On May 5th, 2019, Gruntijackal and Edward Richtofen arrived in Yucatán and located the temple housing the liquified Reality Stone. There, they found Gloria "Athena" Branigan, Alain Bourden and O'Ryan Bennett already inside attempting to destroy the altar containing the liquified stone.
Gruntijackal and Richtofen managed to quickly catch the heroes off-guard, preventing them from destroying the altar. Channeling the power of the Aether, Gruntijackal successfully solidified the Reality Stone back into its original form while Richtofen held the heroes at gunpoint. Using the Reality Stone, Gruntijackal reshaped the temple's layout into a twisted nightmare-filled plain, forcing the heroes to traverse through their deepest fears if they wanted to escape before using the stone to create a tear in reality to allow both Richtofen and himself to leave the temple.[1]
The Infinity Gauntlet
With the Reality Stone in their possession, Gruntijackal and Richtofen managed to rendezvous with Ataraxia and the rest of the council. Ataraxia then inserted the Reality Stone into one of the vacant slots on his Infinity Gauntlet, becoming the second stone to be amassed in the gauntlet after the Time Stone. After the Mind Stone and Soul Stone were subsequently added to the gauntlet right after the Reality Stone, Ataraxia and his council departed for Earth-31218 using the Time Stone to recover the last two Infinity Stones.
Once Ataraxia successfully acquired the Space Stone from Roach and the Power Stone from his original prototype gauntlet that Xarcoh had previously restored using Dark Creation, the remaining stones were added to the Infinity Gauntlet, completing the weapon. Now armed with the unifed power of all six Infinity Stones, Ataraxia immediately turned on his council out of pure selfishness, using the combined powers of the stones to obliterate each member. While Ataraxia experimented with his new power on the city of Green Mountain, he was confronted by the United Heroes.
Ataraxia used the collective power of the stones to battle the heroes, though Roach had devised a plan to defeat him by crippling the gauntlet using an explosive-tipped crossbow. As Roach struggled to keep Ataraxia from unleashing the full power of the Infinity Gauntlet, Samuel Higgins fired the explosive bolt onto the gauntlet, causing an explosion that severed Ataraxia's arm and sent Roach flying backwards, greatly damaging the gauntlet in the process.
Refusing to let the heroes keep the stones, Ataraxia revealed that he had set up an emergency fail-safe within the gauntlet that would cause the stones to atomize themselves should he somehow fall to the heroes. As the stones prepared to destroy themselves, Roach quickly used the Infinity Gauntlet to kill Ataraxia. Roach then quickly discarded the gauntlet as the stones detonated, destroying the already damaged gauntlet and reducing the stones to atoms.[1]
Alternate Timeline
In an alternate rip timeline created as a byproduct of Earth-52319's catastrophic destruction, Ataraxia managed to use the Reality Stone in tandem with the other stones to wipe out half of all life. Due to the efforts of The Son, this alternate timeline was erased from existence before it could cause further damage to the rest of the Roach Chronicles multiverse.[3]
