Ra was the Egyptian God of the Sun.
Biography
God of the Sun
In Ancient Egypt, Ra ascended as the God of the Sun, which attributed to the power of life. Using his soul, Ra created a small artificial sun to power the Scepter of Ra and bestowed it to his most loyal disciples to ensure its power did not fall into the hands of his great-grandson Osiris, the God of the Dead. Ra granted them his divine blessing as they took the scepter with them to journey across the world to spread his teachings. Eventually, Ra's physical body passed away, though his soul still existed within his scepter.[1]
Defeating Osiris
Thousands of years later, the Scepter of Ra was discovered by Merryweather Security contractors serving Osiris. When Merryweather leader Edward Willard attempted to use the scepter to restore Osiris' shattered physical form, Ra sent his power into Willard and possessed him. Ra wrestled for control of Willard's actions from Osiris, admonishing his great-grandson's ambitions. Osiris managed to gain enough control over Willard to use the scepter to resurrect his physical form, but upon returning to it, Osiris found it was unstable and falling apart. Ra fronted in Willard and noted that Osiris was still missing a fragment of his original body, thus preventing him from being revived.
Enraged, Osiris attempted to create a new body by absorbing the Merryweather contractors under Willard's command. Ra attempted to stop Osiris by using his scepter, though he found that its power alone wasn't enough to stop him. Ra noticed the sun overhead and drew power from it to supercharge the scepter. To ensure Osiris was truly dealt with, Ra drained his soul and the power of the supercharged scepter directly into Willard, using the last of his strength to force Willard into unleashing the energy into a massive explosion. Ra's sacrifice ultimately prevented Osiris from completing his new form, averting his return to the mortal world.[1]
