Story

After meeting with Erika, The Emissary for the first time since The Drifter's death, The Son begins to experience visions of a strange but familiar figure. Fearing it could be Riven, The Son contacts Xûr, an Agent of the Nine, and seeks an audience with them. Xûr then tells him because of The Son's purpose in the Nexus, he should go to see them himself in person, as they were extremely interested in meeting him. Asking where to go, Xûr opens an interdimensional portal to Order of the Nine's dimension, which was largely different from the Nexus-verse and not in the same plane of existence. Before he decides to go, he gathers three Nexus Apparitions as Xûr warns him that the Nine will most likely test his strength and ability to prove if he is truly worthy of their attention. Choosing who he thought were perfect, Xûr once again opens the portal and sends them to the Nine.
Reaching the other side, The Son and his allies are greeted by the Nine who say they've been expecting The Son's arrival. He then asks them for an audience, only to be denied and told that he must first prove himself worthy of their attention. Continuing on forward, The Son and his allies come into a large cave-like area. They are given vague instructions about their objective. After figuring out what they were supposed to be do and defeating a group of Shadow beings, they continue on towards the end of the cave, coming to a flight of stairs and begin to ascend them.
Reaching the top, they find a vast, near-endless plains of what looks to be snow. They continue on and approach a group of structures where they are confronted by a Shadow Guard named "Raven" whom they must defeat. In their fight against Raven, they discover in order to defeat him, they must cleanse four plates. Once defeating Raven, the group sees that the central plate where Raven once stood begins to glow and they all stand on it themselves only to be teleported to another place. Regaining sense of their surroundings, they find themselves in the same plain but in a different location. They are then told that they must cleanse the area of Shadows and their Blights which they generated in four locations in the area. After the group is able to vanquish the Shadows and their Blights, they find a large stone structure to their north with a slim entrance. Entering, they go down a narrow, tight tunnel full of pink lights that lead to an opening at the end. Leaving the tunnel, they come into a hexahedron room with Shadows walking casually on the walls and ceiling. They also notice plates and a seemingly sentient sphere of light that speaks to them. It tells them to cleanse the plate from the influence of the Shadows, by doing so they "flip" the room and allow them to traverse. Reaching their destination, they are confronted by a Shadow Gladiator which quickly attacks them, but misses and instead retreats out of the structure through a secondary exit. The group gives chase and comes out to the same snow plains. The Shadow Gladiator is seen near the south end of the area and in its place, Nagath is summoned.
Reaching the southern area, the group is told to defeat Nagath in order to pass through safely. Here, they utilize plates to kill Nagath after three attempts and they make their way to yet another portal which opened on the top of a small flight of stairs. On the other side, they find themselves on a platform floating in a large endless sky. They take notice of "ribbons" which form a path to a more larger floating diamond-like structure. They traverse the ribbons and make their way slowly to the structure and encounter various Shadows on the way, which they vanquish with ease. Getting to the end of the ribbons, they are at the doorstep of the large diamond structure. Told to stand on a plate, they are then teleported to within the structure. They find themselves within a large assembly room with a large door to its north. Once they approach the stage, they are immediately blasted back by a shockwave which was sent by Oryx, the Shadow Emperor. Declared trespassers, Oryx summons four Shadow Guards to deal with the group. All four Shadow Guards then combine their auras together to shield the door leading to Oryx's throne room. The group makes it their objective to vanquish all four of the Guards in order to enter throne room and defeat Oryx, as they are told that he must be defeated. Once defeating the four Shadow Guards, they enter the throne room which is a long hallway with floating platforms. They give chase to Oryx as he retreats back to his throne, taking damage from the group as they follow him. Reaching his throne, Oryx unleashes his power and challenges the group to a final duel to the death. In his final stand, Oryx summons Shadow Warriors, Ravenous Warriors and Gladiators to assist him. After a lengthy fight, the group manages to defeat Oryx whose body vaporizes into nothing.
Without time to celebrate, the group is then teleported to another place. The Son notices Erika standing near a cliff looking into what appeared to be stars in a formation that resembled The Angel. Erika then explains that this sky manifests into or displays in a star formation the thing or person that's most dear to the individual who's looking at it, but can only be seen by them. The Son says that explains why he sees a strange formation. He then asks on what she sees, though she replies that its not important to what she sees. She then tells him that the Nine were waiting for him. He and his allies are about to continue forward, but Erika says that only The Son needs to proceed, as the other three did not have anything to ask of the Nine. The others agree and choose to wait for him. He then proceeds to follow the pathway which leads him to a door that opens on its own. He then comes into a room that resembled a councilor's chamber and notices nine figures.
All nine figures greet The Son, telling him that he is truly worthy of their attention for defeating Oryx and his Shadows, though they indirectly mention he is not actually dead nor are his Shadows. The figure in the middle introduces himself as Viius, The Son then asks him of the visions he's been experiencing since meeting their Emissary. Viius explains that those visions were warnings of a danger that was approaching the Nexus. He then asks how would it be possible to endanger the Nexus since he was its Ruler, though Viius then tells him that he is only the Ruler of one of the Nine Dimensions, that the danger did not originate from within the Nexus Dimension. He asks what he could do to prepare. One of the other figures explain that he needs to unite every Nexu in order to defeat this incoming threat. The Son then realizes that he needs both Sophia and The Angel. He then thanks the Nine for their time and leaves back to the Nexus.

Encounters
Entrance
Starting in the cave area, players will need to follow a pathway that will lead them to the open areas of the location. This is the encounter where players are introduced to the Shadows, an enemy that is controlled by the Order of the Nine as "minions".
In order to pass the encounter, players will need to clear the area of various Blights, which are protected by the auras of Shadow Guards. As long as these Guards are alive, the Blights cannot be damaged. The Shadow Guards will use their shields to block incoming fire and will bash players if they get too close. Once a Shadow Guard is killed, the Blight they are protecting loses its shield. Players will need to kill all six Shadow Guards and six Blights in the area; one Guard for each Blight.
After this is done, the remaining Shadows in the area will need to be killed and players can move on to the next encounter.
Raven, the Shadow Guard
The second encounter involves the players needing to kill Raven, the Shadow Guard as he is protecting a plate that serves as a teleporter. Raven is also supported by Shadow Warriors and Gladiators.
In order to pass the encounter, Raven will shield himself with his own Aura, generated by other Shadow Guards not present, and players will need to cleanse four plates to dispel this shield in order deal damage to Raven. To cleanse these plates, the Shadow Ravenous Warriors will drop a Shadow Mote upon death. Players need to kill these Warriors, collect 30 of their Shadow Motes and bring them to a plate to cleanse it. Once a plate is cleansed, Raven loses his shield for 45 seconds and can be damaged. If Raven is not dead by the time all four plates are cleansed, they'll become corrupted once again and players will need to repeat the cleansing process.
After killing Raven, the remaining Shadow Warriors and Gladiators need to be killed and players can move on to the next encounter.
Shadow Blights
The third encounter involves the players needing to clear the area of four Shadow Blights that are protected by Shadow Guards, supported by Shadow Warriors and Gladiators.
In order to pass the encounter, players will need to do the same as the first encounter. Kill the Shadow Guards protecting the Blights and kill all Shadows in the area. This time, each Blight is protected by the aura of three Shadow Guards, meaning players will need to kill twelve Shadow Guards altogether. Players will also need to be aware of Ravenous Warriors, as they will occasionally spawn and will morph into the Shadow Guards to heal them.
After destroying all four Blights and all remaining Shadows are killed, players can move on to the next encounter.
The Hexahedron
The fourth encounter involves the players needing to traverse a room that is able to be flipped. Toland acts as a guide and tells the players that they need to flip the room, as players cannot walk on the walls and ceiling as the Shadows do.
In order to pass the encounter, players will need to kill Ravenous Warriors that will spawn throughout the encounter. Toland will guide players to a corrupted plate that needs to be cleansed. Like the Raven boss fight, players will need to collect 30 Shadow Motes dropped by these Ravenous Warriors in order to successfully cleanse the plate. The room will need be flipped four times in order to reach the end. Like the previous encounter, Ravenous Warriors can corrupt the plates by standing in them after they've been cleansed.
After flipping the room four times and reaching the end, players will need to kill all remaining Shadows. Once this is done, a Shadow Gladiator will spawn and attack the player closest to them, and once damaging them, the Gladiator will retreat.
Nagath, the Shadow Witch
The fifth encounter involves the players needing to kill Nagath, the Shadow Witch who is summoned by the Shadow Gladiator that spawned at the end of the previous encounter. Nagath is supported by Shadow Warriors, Gladiators and two Guards.
In order to pass the encounter, players will need to kill both of the Guards, as they are protecting two Shadow Blights in the area, which in turn are granting Nagath a shield to prevent herself from being damaged. While this shield is active on Nagath, she will wander the area and attack players with a Shadow Blast that she fires from her palms. If a player gets too close to her, she will summon a cloud of Dark Energy that'll slow that player down and distort their vision. Once Nagath's shield is gone and like previous encounters, Ravenous Warriors will spawn and morph into her, healing any health she has lost.
After killing Nagath and all remaining Shadows are killed as well, players can move on to the next encounter.
The Singularity
Although not really an encounter, the sixth encounter involves the players traversing the large ribbons to get closer to the structure where Oryx can be found. Shadow Warriors will occasionally be encountered.
Unlike previous encounters, this one is straight-forward. Players will need to traverse the ribbons to the bottom and get to the platform where a plate is located that'll teleport players to the next encounter. A single Shadow Gladiator is found at the plate, supported by Shadow Warriors.
Once this Shadow Gladiator is killed, players can get on the plate and will be teleported to the Assembly Chamber.
Assembly Chamber
The seventh encounter involves the players needing to kill four Shadow Guards which have combined their auras together to shield the door leading to Oryx's throne room. Shadow Warriors and Gladiators will support the four Guards.
In order to pass the encounter, players will need to kill each Shadow Guard and sever their connection to each other, as by doing so will also weaken the shield on Oryx's throne room door. Each Shadow Guard will be classified as a Major Boss, which increases their health and damage to players. Like previous encounters, Ravenous Warriors will spawn and morph into the Guards, which will heal a portion of their health. Because they are Major Bosses, this healing is significantly larger than before.
After killing all four Shadow Guards and remaining Shadows, the shield on the door will be dispelled and players can go through it to the final encounter.
Emperor's Throne Room
The eighth and final encounter involves players facing against Oryx, the Shadow Emperor. Once inside, Oryx will snarl and growl at the players before retreating back to his throne at the end of the hallway.
In order to pass the encounter, players will need to traverse the hallway which has numerous floating platforms. There are three large platforms where Oryx will stand his ground and battle with the players. At each of these three platforms, players can deal damage to Oryx and after he sustains a certain amount, he will retreat to another platform until he reaches his throne, where numerous Shadow Warriors, Ravenous Warriors and Gladiators will spawn and assist Oryx in defeating the players. The Ravenous Warriors will attack players this time, dealing more damage than regular Shadow Warriors. They will also morph into Oryx and heal a portion of his health as well.
After defeating Oryx and all remaining Shadows, players will be brought to Erika, The Emissary who will congratulate them on a good well done. She will then go over to a cliff and the map will end.
